It's a wonderful new service sponsored in Topeka by the United Way of Greater Topeka. People have an amazing number of needs which can be met by some organization or another. The trick is connecting the person in need with the service provider.
Nancy Perry, president of the Topeka United Way, said that by dialing 211, Kansans will be connected to a trained staff member, based in a call center in Wichita, who can direct the caller to organizations in the caller's area that can address the specific need.
"They walk you through it," Perry said. "They find out what you truly need. Is it rent/utilities? Is it food? You don't get that kind of service from a phone book." Topeka Capital-Journal
